I’m learning more about the CRC legislation that comes into effect next year and it’s sounding like a rather expensive undertaking for business so far. From what I can gather, and in very simple terms, organisations within the scope of this legislation will initially need to buy allowances (emission credits) from the Government at a cost of £12/tonne of CO2 produced. Cutting carbon emissions saves money, as we have posted on this blog on numerous occasions. By virtualising, consolidating and centralising IT provisions, companies can save thousands of pounds every year in energy bills and many, many tonnes of CO2 emissions. (more…)
Some interesting information from Springboard Research / Computerworld last week: less than 10% of Asia Pacific firms have formally implemented a green IT strategy – yet 60% plan to do so during the next 2 years and almost one third say that the economic crisis will actually accelerate implementation. He agrees that server virtualisation is one of the green technologies that will thrive over the long term and deliver most value to organisations. (more…)
