CRC legislation – the potential costs and benefits ……
I’m learning more about the CRC legislation that comes into effect next year and it’s sounding like a rather expensive undertaking for business so far. From what I can gather, and in very simple terms, organisations within the scope of this legislation will initially need to buy allowances (emission credits) from the Government at a cost of £12/tonne of CO2 produced.
Now say we have a client who has 50 mid sized servers and wants to use our technology to virtualise and reduce down to 12 servers: that client will SAVE approx £17K in energy costs per annum and reduce CO2 emissions by 95 tonnes. Multiply the 95 tonnes by the £12/tonne cost then that’s another annual saving of £1140 in CRC legislation costs.
Take into account that they’re getting significantly higher application availability at the same time – it’s got to be worth looking at, surely?
