Carbon Reduction Commitment legislation on its way
Carbon Reduction Commitment legislation, due to be introduced in April 2010, will affect most large businesses in the public and private sectors. But how is ‘large business’ assessed?
If an organisation had a total half-hourly metered electricity use of more than 6,000 megawatt-hours from 1st Jan 08 until 31st Dec 08 then it will be affected by CRC legislation. Equally, if a business, including parent company and subsidiaries, spends more than £1M a year in the UK on electricity then it’s included too.
This is likely to include supermarkets, banks, water companies, local authorities (including state funded schools) and all central government departments.
Companies affected will need to submit annual data statements online to the Environment Agency – and, no doubt, will be doing their utmost to reduce their figures year on year.
