We’ve been attending back to back technology events, seminars and summits all with a common theme. Call it what you will – Green IT, environmental issues, reducing emissions, ozone damage, energy and the economy, the carbon crunch (a term I particularly chuckled at) - the evidence we have seen is that business at least seems to be getting its act together to try and reduce the effect of global warming. Some interesting information from Springboard Research / Computerworld last week: less than 10% of Asia Pacific firms have formally implemented a green IT strategy – yet 60% plan to do so during the next 2 years and almost one third say that the economic crisis will actually accelerate implementation. Good – it looks like they both agree with us then.
In a recent report titled “TechRadar I&O for Professionals: Green IT 1.0 Technologies, Q2 2009,” Forrester analyst Doug Washburn discusses the potential short- and long-term success of more than a dozen “green IT 1.0″ technologies. He agrees that server virtualisation is one of the green technologies that will thrive over the long term and deliver most value to organisations. (more…)
