The importance of maintaining offsite backups
I recently read a very interesting article from Continuity Central about Distribute IT, an Australian domain register and hosting company. They were hit by a cyber attack and, as a result, lost more than 4,800 client websites. Unfortunately, their backup systems were hosted online – not on physical servers – so they lost all their backups as well. This resulted not just in the loss of their own business – but impacted on many of their customers too, who lost all their web site content.
Rest assured that with Replicate Data, our offsite data backup solution for servers, PCs and Macs, client data backups are hosted on two separate physical servers in Greater Manchester, more than 5 miles apart for added resilience. That means if there’s a problem at one data centre, the other one won’t be affected and your data is safe.
With 247host, our high availability hosting solution, we also snapshot and backup client virtual machines (VMs) on a weekly basis as standard. Replicate Data offsite data backup can also be applied to these environments at the client’s request so they can retrieve individual folders and files as required.
A belt and braces approach is always sensible we think and we need our clients to know that they’re protected, come what may!
