MEERCAT - THE GREEN COMPUTER SECURITY
SOLUTION
Typically, many PCs are only used for 8-10 hours a day but
regularly powered up for 24. Even organisations with 'switch
off' policies can find PCs left on when employees attend meetings,
visit other departments or go for lunch.
The MeerCat monitor has been designed to reduce the amount of
power used when a user has moved away and is not in the vicinity of
the PC. MeerCat also secures the computer system to prevent
unauthorised users from accessing information and data -
particularly important in open-plan offices and where
confidential data can be accessed.
MeerCat benefits to you:
- Reduces costs - saves on energy costs with ROI
typically achieved within 1 year
- Enhances security - prevents unauthorised access to
your data
- Environmentally friendly - reduces CO2 output

HOW MEERCAT WORKS
The MeerCat monitor consists of a USB receiver and
transmitter. Utilising proven technology, the user carries a
transmitter held in their ID badge card holder or as a keyring
device. As the user moves away from their computer, the
MeerCat software timers are initiated to perform computer system
lock, screen power down or system shutdown. This secures the
computer system, preventing other user access, and reduces the power
used when the user is not in the vicinity. On return, the user
simply enters his/her password to resume use.
All in and out of vicinity information is logged, together with
power timings, which can be easily analysed for system use, cost and
green benefits.
Typical example: A
company with 500 PCs can save £100K+ and 600MT+ CO2 emissions over
the next 5 years - and that includes the initial MeerCat
purchase price.
